As well as having access to all the amenities at Leeds Beckett University, the Northern Film School also has dedicated facilities and cutting-edge equipment for its students.
NEW Leeds School of Arts building
Work is currently underway on our new state-of-the-art £80M Leeds School of Arts building which will be home to the Leeds School of Arts, including the Northern Film School. The building is due for completion in September 2020 and will include a range of specialist features, including: a 220-seat Dolby Atmos movie cinema; state-of-the-art TV and film studios; a black box studio; a green screen studio; a stop motion studio; Foley studios; dubbing and music recording studios; and a host of post-production suites.
At our Prime Studios base we have the North’s largest infinity cove studio, with drive-in vehicle access, green room, changing rooms and make-up stations. At Electric Press, the school’s primary site, we have two purpose-built teaching studios with overhead rig and kit stores.
Camera and Grip
We have the following camera and grip equipment:
- Arri and Aaton S16mm film cameras
- Sony F55(+R5), F5 with Zeiss CP2 and Canon Cinema PL lens kits. HD, 2K, 4K raw capability.
- Sony PMW300, PXWX160, NX5 cameras.
- Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras with full rig and Zeiss PL 16mm lens kits.
- Canon 5D Cameras with full rig and Zeiss ZF lens kits.
- Gripping equipment, including light and heavyweight dollies and jib arms.
We have everything you would expect to see on a modern, professional set, up to 2.5 MSR. This includes MSR/HMI, Kinoflo, Dedo, Tungsten, Arri lights, LED and lighting grip.
With dedicated production design stores for props and sets, our three studios feature sets designed and built by and for student productions.
We have an extensive range of professional sound equipment from the likes of Sennheiser, Sound Devices and Tascam. All edit stations are equipped with ProTools software. There is a sound recording studio in Electric Press and access to larger facilities elsewhere in our University.
Our Electric Press building is fully post-production networked with a 128Tb Editshare Server connected to 40 iMac Workstations. This means students can access their project from any edit station in the building. We have dedicated edit suites with Avid, FCP, Apple Premiere and film capabilities and a purpose-built 4K Da Vinci Resolve grading suite with viewing room. The software used includes Avid Media Composer 7, DaVinci Resolve 7, DCP Omatic, Apple, FCP7, Compressor, Motion, Adobe CS6, Premier Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Media Encoder, On Location, Prelude and Speedgrade.
A 75 seat HD viewing theatre with full playback facilities, production offices for student projects and flexible teaching spaces.
